Trained as an architect, Doug Newkirk has crafted projects in interior architectural design since 2002. Beginning in Washington DC with the acclaimed boutique architectural firm, Lehman-Smith & McLeish (LSM) where he led the design for large-scale, luxury workplace interiors early in his career. During five years with LSM, his work included working with clients such as General Dynamics for their 8,000 sq.ft. corporate headquarters, K&L Gates law firm in Washington DC, New York City, Boston, London, the 1 million sq.ft. Samsung office interiors in Seoul, as well as winning an AIA Design Excellence award, and featured in Interior Design magazine.

Before founding Newkirk Design Studio in early 2021, Doug brings a career background working with award winning firms, such as AvroKO, Gabellini-Sheppard, Mancini Duffy, and Pei, Cobb, Freed & Partners (founded by I.M. Pei) in New York City.  Here, he developed a range of skills in narrative-driven interior design applications for Corporate Workplaces, Restaurants, and Retail spaces.  

His design career in Shanghai began in 2010, as Design Director for international firms:  MMoser Associates, Space Matrix, and Gensler.  His experience in the design-build industry built a portfolio of work across China and Asia-Pacific that includes Customer Experience Centers and Innovation Centers, as well as Corporate Workplace interiors.
